Ellen Hanson

From fresh, modern, and elegant to lush, refined, and layered, Ellen Hanson's interiors are always a unique visualization of her clients' own tastes and lifestyles. Vibrant use of color and fresh ways of combining hues and textures are hallmarks of Ellen's spaces. She collaborates closely with her clients to realize beautiful, comfortable, uncluttered, and livable interiors planned around the way each client envisions his or her home.

While Ellen's background (BA in Art History, Cornell University; Design Director, Luten Clary Stern; apprenticeship at Philadelphia's Fabric Workshop) prepared her well for high-end residential interiors, her curiosity and open mind push her design practice to continually evolve. One facet of this evolution is driven by Ellen's travels throughout the world in search of inspiration and unique furnishings, accessories, and fabrics. Another aspect of this constant growth and global perspective is the inclusion of green principles in all ongoing projects. The firm's membership in the NY Chapter US Green Building Council shows the commitment to promoting sustainable building practices and environmentally responsible choices.

As a devoted practioner of Yoga, Ellen's personal sense of centeredness and calm strength informs the practical aspects of her design practice.

Ellen Hanson Designs was founded in 1991 and is based in New York City. Ellen's residential interior design projects range from cottages in the Hamptons to Park Avenue penthouses to Westchester residences, with occasional clients in London and Sun Valley, Idaho. Ellen is also reporting for the new eco-conscious column “Green Scene” on popular designer resource 1st Dibs.
